The Mentorship Committee is focused on strategic mentorship among women that transcends hierarchy, creates meaningful relationships and interactions to benefit the individual and bring value to the WiTMCS Network. We are a group of women of different ages, career stages and career paths from whose experience we may draw valuable lessons. We strive to facilitate relationships and networking amongst the members of the group and outside the organization to benefit the mentees.
Our goal is to facilitate the creation of unique natural mentor-mentee relationships such as: 1) career mentors; 2) life mentors; 3) project mentors depending on the need of the mentee. The group provides guidance throughout the process. Furthermore, we will support and educate our members on how to be an effective mentor by providing coaching regarding open communication, empathy, listening skills, and organizing supportive and encouraging sessions.
Currently, our bimonthly conferences, created in partnership with the Early Career Committee, consist of a speaker(s) presentation followed by a panel discussion that is moderated by one of the in-training or early career women of the group. Our objectives are: 1)To provide a safe environment for expression and discussion; 2) to guide our early career members on how to organize the conferences, creating valuable content, and connecting with colleagues; 3) educate us all at different levels on various topics such as career development, job searches, job negotiation, navigating the first year on faculty, promotion, life-work balance, finances, and research.
